Quinn Ewers Makes Decision on His NFL Draft Status
Last year’s rookie draft class was an exciting one for the NFL, as QB-needy teams could easily find their next guy. Caleb Williams was the universal top QB. He showed flashes in his debut season, but the chaotic surroundings and the presence of QB2 Jayden Daniels hurt his stardom in year one. Daniels led his club into the postseason in a fascinating franchise turnaround. Drake Maye and Bo Nix can be happy with their rookie seasons, while Michael Penix and J.J. McCarthy earn an incomplete grade.
Quinn Ewers Makes Decision on His NFL Draft Status
This year’s group cannot meet those standards. Many analysts only view Miami’s Cam Ward and Colorado’s Shadeur Sanders as first-round quarterbacks with franchise signal-caller trades. The next one in line could be the gifted but inconsistent Jalen Milroe, and an outside chance to raise draft boards might go to Ole Miss’ Jaxson Dart.
But there’s another guy whose name is Quinn Ewers. The Texas QB has successfully defended his starting role against Arch Manning and led his team to the CFP semifinals, where Ohio State ended his dream of a national title game.
After that defeat, he announced his intention to declare for April’s NFL draft via video on social media. In three years with Steve Sarkisian’s Longhorns after transferring from Ohio State, Ewers produced 9,128 passing yards and 68 passing touchdowns to 24 interceptions in 36 games. He added another eight touchdowns on the ground.
According to 247Sports’ Chip Brown, Ewers turned down an offer worth $8 million in NIL money for transferring to an unidentified program. He has also made quite some money in his three years at Texas.
Brown wrote, “Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers turned down an $8 million NIL offer to transfer to another school for his final year of eligibility because he was ready to move on and enter the 2025 NFL and also to preserve his college football experience as a Longhorn, sources close to Ewers told Horns247. Ewers could’ve earned more in one season next year than the roughly $6 million in NIL revenue he’s earned the past three seasons in Austin, sources told Horns247. Ewers also earned $1.4 million by signing with GT Sports Marketing when he enrolled at Ohio State in the fall of 2021.”
Ewers reportedly wanted to exclusively play for Texas in his college career. Perhaps he could’ve stayed, but it became quite clear that Manning is the Longhorns’ future when he replaced Ewers in a few games this past season.
When the draft rolls around, expect Ewers to be selected at some point late on day one or on day two. He has played and delivered in some big games in his career but lacks high-end physical traits.
